Meeting the Need for Skilled Labor!

Career opportunities for students in CTE areas are abundant and desirable. As a district we need to provide the best preparation for all of our students as they move into adulthood. This expansion / remodel will allow us to provide an opportunity for students pursuing positions in CTE equal to the opportunity that we provide for students pursuing a 4 year college degree.

School concessions gives students chance to expand business experience

COKATO, MN -- The DECA students from Dassel Cokato High School have taken over the school concessions line this 2016-2017 school year to open up the opportunity for more business experience for students.

DECA is planning on expanding the concessions line by adding new products to the stand. Over the course of the next few weeks, the concessions stand should be filled with items such as pretzels, warm cookies, a slushy machine, and Dassel-Cokato apparel.

Michael Howell, the concessions' manager and Senior at DCHS, explained that taking over DECA has become a really good experience for students who are interested in taking small business management.

With DECA taking over the school line, prices have been raised to pay for the cost of the items and give the school a higher profit margin to be used to fund various programs. Students have noticed the price of the most popular item in the concessions, ice cream cones, has been raised. Raising prices gives students the chance to learn about pricing and how it affects businesses.

“The price of the cones was so small, we could have either taken them out of the concessions or raise the price,” stated Howell in regards to the raising of prices.

The school line has been through a lot of changes so far this school year. The DECA program is planning to continue to run the store throughout the year.

Helpful Videos Available

The high school guidance staff and administration has held several help sessions this school year. You may view an archived video of the presentations online. You may also download or view the PowerPoint presentations shared at each. The sessions included information on college credit, financial aid, registration and the Plan test.

New ACT Prep Site Available

Minnesota Career Information System (MnCIS) and the new ACT Online Prep Course and Practice Tests are available to Dassel-Cokato students preparing to take the ACT.

The Online course allows students to take a pretest and then customizes lessons for them based on their pretest results. In addition to test content they also have some very good test strategies.

The other option students have is to take one of 3 practice tests in English, Math, Reading, Science, and Writing. They can do this timed or untimed.

If students or parents have questions about this program, they should contact Mr. Tool in the HS guidance office.
